The Suggestion Box

Season Two suggestions. Put 'em here.

A note from CMJ - I'm gonna go through these and mark them with a number, 'cause it's quick. Given that this is a pretty important document, it should be considered outside of the usual Wiki guidelines (guidelines like “Please vandalise the Wiki” and “Make sure you lie your arse off”). To save anyone else the downer of being a big spoilsport, I'll say it myself: Please don't fuck with this page! Just add suggestions - nothing else! If you want to discuss the suggestions, do it in the linked Forum post. Ta!

Here's what the numbers mean:

• 0: Not gonna happen. No way, absolutely not, you can fuck right off.
• 1: Unlikely, for technical or balance reasons, or because the amount of hassle involved isn't proportional to the amount of awesome the changes would create.
• 2: Still thinking. Maybe about whether to do it, maybe about how to do it.
• 3: It's likely that this will turn up one day, not sure if it'll be at the start of Season Two though.
• 4: Definitely going in Season Two.
• 5: Coding is done and the feature is completed.
• x: Something else is being done that serves a similar purpose, rendering this moot.

• Suffixes on the name as a preference.
• Don't filter single letters “u” and “r” (and others I haven't noticed) when followed by colour codes.
• Increase the limit of colour codes allowed in a comment.

• Replace something by or add the ICMoD as an event, and/or add it to the Common Grounds. It has weapon turrents. Would allow for cheap-ass copying of the presentation text in that article. ¹⁾

• Implant affecting Mercenaries (heal, attack, defense) or
• Buffs for Mercenaries altogether (probably a bitch).

• 4 Revise the FAQ to make it less and more informative.
• 0 Show player biographies in a small pop-up without dragging someone off the page they're currently viewing.
• 3 Generally expand on the information presented when a player is in an Outpost (who's currently in Kittania? race, gender, hat size, tattoos, etc.?) CMJ COMMENT: This is pretty well all coded up, but I'm at odds about whether or not to actually use it.http://enquirer.improbableisland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=3328
• 4 Add more 'Boss Monsters' (ala the Magpie, Mutant, etc.)
• 1 Add a higher probability of running into Outpost-themed events or monsters. (e.g., more Thieving Midget Bastards near SquatHole, more Cryptic Jokers near AceHigh, more RSP Mutants near Pleasantville, etc.) See previous link.
• 2 Replace Turns and Travel with a straight Stamina system, possibly remove the Travel Agents.
• 1 Allow bounty hunters to get tips from informants on where a target was last seen, traders to figure out what an Outpost might be selling books for, etc. See CTP's comments.
• 3 Rather than linear progression through implants, allow players the option to distribute their points in a forked path. See CTP's comments. CMJ COMMENT: This is almost moot now, as each Implant will have a VERY different way of operating.
• 1 Allow players to log out after a DK, rather than automatically triggering a New Day.
• 0 Flag a player's last 5-6 monster encounters and reduce their encounter rate for x number of fights to vary what a player runs into in the Jungle.

• x Implement a sales tax in the Vending Emporium.
• x Further streamline the Vending Emporium.
• x Make Trading Post items more valuable by making them USEFUL.
• 4 Add more mounts.
• 4 Add more things to do in any given Outpost.
• 4 Improbable item: Get off the Failboat free.
• x? Allow players to sell any of their items to a General Goods store at a //deep// discount.
• 4 Find ways to reward players with high charm.
• 2 Offer DK-dependent, persistent weapons that unlocked abilities as you moved up in levels. See CTP's comments.
• 1 Letting other players view others' statistical analysis.
• 3 Nerf the Gargleblaster. See Hermein's comments.

• 1 Create folders for sorting.
• 2 Allow players to see sent messages.
• 2 Allow players to send Distractions to a select group of people, particularly from their friend list. See Sessine's comments.
• 2 Preview clan Distractions, and add a by-line to know who sent the damn thing.

• 2 A module where players could build and customize arms, armor, etc.
• 2 User-created locations and buildings.
• 2 User-created shops. (See Joe's to-do thread for details.)

CMJ COMMENT ON SCAVENGING IN GENERAL: The Scavenging system, like the Vending system, is a pain in the arse, and it may be one of those things that I'll end up making significant changes to, or even scrapping altogether and replacing it with something better.

• 3 Allow players to create x number of lower-level items for the same amount of XP and req that they would receive to create one upper-level item. See Fodder Kid's comments.
• 2 Allow upper-level Scavengers to create any item in the shop with one supermetal after maxing their Scavenging level. See Icterid's comments.
• 0 Allow customization and gifting of Workshop-created items. Same thread, see CTP's comments. CMJ COMMENT: Weapons and Armour gifting is going away for S2, being replaced with gifting of consumable items instead.
• 2 Be able to acquire scrap in other places – monster drops, improbable events, etc. Same thread, see CTP's comments.
• 3 Make scavenging and assembling more efficient.

• 3 Fix the nerfed option to retitle weapons and armor, add options to retitle the TYPE of mount you have, as well as gloves, helms, boots, race, implant, etc. See comments by CTP and CSG.
• Going through these one at a time: Offer for sale: more PVP fights(3), stage FX(2, purely 'cause I'm not sure how to implement it, although it would be really bloody good), a PVP buff(3), temporary Jungle fights / PVP turns ('like a potent pill')(2), a guard ticket for dwellings(2), Favor or a New Day(3), a skeleton key to let yourself into someone else's cottage or mansion(2), an increased character or posting limit on the boards(1, technically difficult), Scavenging turns, additional mailbox space for Distractions, a permanent folder to save Distractions(1, technically difficult).
• 3 Allow players to trade 1 DP : 1 Favor from Disgrace. See CSG's comments.
• 0-1(technically and license..ly pretty well impossible) Add donator subscriptions in the form of 'pledges.' See previous link.

• 4 Limit extra accumulated HP to be dependent on DKs, rather than charm or cigarettes.
• 4 Add more races (Tor suggests Spidermorphs in the thread linked above, Rosin suggests Spiderkittymorphs: Kittymorphs with stronger buffs and debuffs; Twitchers: “less durable humans, but with more turns and travel. Replace grenades with ability to spontaneously combust?”)
• ? (Right, didn't know how you wanted it done. Sorry bout the mixup, there's a thread now.)Also suggested, a sort improbability based ability that would activate after certain amount of drive kills that functions somewhat like a Joker buff, only less improbable.(improbability contamination?)
• 3 Introduce an element of strategy by varying the post-DK buffs available to a player or changing their costs based on the race you just DKed as. See comments by Former Noob and Fogger. CMJ COMMENT: Still not sure whether we're going with the NB fork, which will take care of this for us.
• 2 Add the option to train persistent racial abilities. See CTP's comments.
• 2 Improbable events that change character's race during a DK.

• 4-5 (one subplot already done) Add additional quests: Outpost-thematic, non-Jungle related (trading or puzzle quests), etc.
• 2 (every charstat hook is pretty server-intensive) Add quest information for Dan's quests to the player sidebar (quest location, item).

• 1 (might consider a sort of 'best of the month' type deal, but the main board stays) Reset the HoF on a (weekly / monthly / bimonthly) basis.
• 3 Tier the HoF by DK levels or filter by the date you joined the Island. See Icterid's comments, also Fodder Kid's.
• 4 Show rankings from previous seasons in the NewHome Museum.

• 2 (I'm working on mechanics to limit the number of buff categories that a clan can activate) Make clan buffs consumable - to maintain them, you have to continue feeding req or cigs into your coffers. See Former Noob's comments.
• 4 Cap clan sizes and reduce the strength of clan buffs.
• 0 Allow clans to split into associate clans, dividing clan buffs and members between the both of them. See Hairy Mary's comments in the thread linked above, as well as discussion here.
• 2 (maybe at some point, probably not at the start of the season - this is something we can always add in later) Allow clans to 'transcend,' giving some reward for reaching and then resetting their buffs.
• 1 (technically difficult) Offer customizable titles for positions within the clan (so, options to rename Leader, Officer, Member).
• 4 Tweak the module such that leaders don't have to demote themselves to adjust clan buffs.
• 1 Allow tracking of clan contributions, so as to promote contests in the clan.
• 1 (pain in the arse) Track who contributes to Council Offices.
• 2 Make clans more **local** to an Outpost. See Gryph's comments.
• 0 (clans can sort this out themselves) Make clan membership more meaningful - * exclusivity or more stringent entry requirements. See previous link; Gryph's comments.
• 2 Allow clans to build modules or buildings. Again, see previous link; Gryph's comments and CTP's expansion.
• 0 (n0 fr34k1ng w4y) Allow numbers in clan names.
• 4 Tweak benefits to complete control in the Politics module.

• 1? (could go either way on this, dependant on a lot of other factors, although at this point it's more unlikely than likely - CMJ) Eliminate the in-Outpost Jungles and require players to scoot all over the Island instead.
• 1 (this would be an absolute bitch to code, for the relatively small amount of awesomeness it'd provide) Increase the probability of thematic monster encounters depending on the type of tile a player is standing on (more aquatic monsters on the oceans and rivers, etc).
• 4 Add more interesting / interactive Improbable Events. (Merchants, locations to explore, etc.)
• 3 Hide a few public chat spaces around the Island.
• 1-2 Hidden Caches to save some req between runs.
• 4-5 Create Mounts with different travel costs per terrain type, so we can do flying mounts, aquatic mounts and suchlike (World Map capability written and ready to go, we just need some mounts now).

• 2 A limitation of three of any given type of home, and/or a limitation on BUILDING but not PURCHASING those for sale.
• 2-3 Allow players to purchase additional rooms or chatspace in a house.
• 1-2 Increase basic security of cottages and mansions so that to PvP someone in a Cottage or Mansion, you have to bribe someone to let you in. See Icterid's comments. CMJ COMMENT: I'm thinking more along the lines of a negative buff, as you're fighting on someone else's familiar territory. Perhaps. Maybe.

• x (rendered moot by the introduction of consumable item gifting) Institute a free box in NewHome or ImprobableCentral where players could leave unwanted backpack items and Improbable items.
• x (rendered moot by the introduction of consumable item gifting) Institute free boxes in Clan Halls. See Icterid's comment in the above thread.
• x (Equipment gifting is being removed for Season Two, making this a moot point - CMJ) Allow players to regift Equipment items.
• 3 In-game realization of the notion behind Snickerer's distribution of Awesome Points: Allow moderators to reward players for helpfulness, creativity, etc. See cowtessa's comments.
• 4 Allow gifting of one-use Improbable items.

• 2 Raise PVP stakes to a 5% wager, 10% loss.
• 3 Make PVP opt-in, rather than opt-out.
• 1 (fantastic idea, but a bitch to do technically - CMJ) Allow posses of players to gang up on a single PVPer.
• x (if we make PvP opt-in, then this is no longer relevant -CMJ) Turn on PVP only after the first or fifth DK.
• 0 (people will naturally focus on different areas of their stats, and those who want more PvP will increase their HP. I don't want a level playing field, because it's boring -CMJ) Change PVP targeting requirements to be HP-dependent rather than level-dependent (i.e., if you have 150 HP, you can only attack people in the 125 * 175 HP range). See CTP's comments in the previously linked thread.
• 2 Change PVP targeting requirements to be DK-dependent AND level-dependent. See Icterid's comments in the previously linked thread.
• 1 (this is just as unfair as the other way around - higher-level players have no option to retaliate -CMJ) If PVP becomes DK or HP dependent, allow the little fish in the pond to challenge any of the big fish without restriction. See Sessine's comments in the previously linked thread.
• 1 (maybe, although I do like the element of risk when PvP'ing -CMJ) Display maximum HP in player bios. See Sessine's comments in the previously linked thread.
• 4 Make the PvP System message more LOL. See Sessine's comments.
• 3 Be able to hire a Hitman to send after a contestant. See Icterid's quote of CTP's comment in previously linked thread.
• 2 Add a bit of Improbability to PvP (such as buff salves, random weapons to use for the fight, random events during the fight). See Icterid's comments.
• 1 (good idea, but pain in the arse to code) Bundle PvP distractions into one distraction, or make a PvP page triggered at log in. See Icterid's comments in the previously linked thread.
